Domi 12x16 aluminum
$180 cheaper
Domi's all-aluminum 12 x 16 ft has louvers that open to 130 degrees, the widest range in our list. That lets you angle them against low morning or evening sun instead of just open or shut. It weighs 440 lb.
Best for: A patio that gets low sun from one side in the morning or evening
Purple Leaf 10x20 louvered pergola
$220 more, 1-year warranty, higher score
200 sq ft of shade on an all-aluminum frame, louvers turned with a handle and opening to 85 degrees. This is one of the few listings in our comparison with a snow figure, 8.2 psf, and it comes with a 1-year frame warranty.
Best for: A long patio in a place with light winter snow
Purple Leaf 94AS 12x14
$150 cheaper, 24 sq ft less shade
12 x 14 ft gives 168 sq ft in a near-square shape that suits a sectional sofa or a round table. Same tall 94AS aluminum frame with drainage through the posts. The kit ships at 516 lb, so plan a second pair of hands.
Best for: A square deck or patio with a sectional or a round dining table
Purple Leaf 94AS 10x16
$120 more, 32 sq ft less shade
The same 94.3 in tall, all-aluminum 94AS frame as the 10 x 12, stretched to 10 x 16 ft. That extra 40 sq ft fits a grill or a lounge chair next to the table. Shade screens and an LED strip come as add-ons.
Best for: A long, narrow patio along the back of the house with room for a table and a grill
Vortextove 12x16 aluminum
$535 cheaper
Vortextove's 12 x 16 ft is all aluminum with a hand crank and louvers that open to 90 degrees. It weighs 393 lb and comes without curtains or lights.
